What is SQL?

SQL is the Structured Query Language, which is mostly used to communicate with a database. It is considered as the standard language for relational database management systems.

The most common relational database management system that uses SQL is Microsoft SQL Server.

SQL statements are basically used to perform various tasks liking updating data on a particular database, or retrieving data from a particular database. Although most of the database systems make use of SQL, however, some of them also have their own supplementary proprietary extensions, which are generally used only on their system.

The standard SQL commands like Select, Update, Create, Insert, Delete, Drop, etc can be easily used to accomplish almost every task that you might need to perform with a database.
